Crystal Palaces

What defines our sense of place and being? Through surveying Victorian collectomania - the transposed and fantastical creatures of south London’s The Horniman Museum and Crystal Palace Park – history’s trace is investigated. These public collections, evidence of Britain’s past, are juxtaposed with a response to contemporary travel - an aural travelogue and soundscape – which conveys the sense of being a stranger in one’s own land. The work explores uncanny associations and historical perspectives - its configuration suggests the visuals' curated origins - addressing where and what is home?
